The target was 116 runs. Bangladesh had to score this run in 12.1 overs to go to the semi-finals. Bangladesh started batting with the equation in mind. However, after 3 wickets fell, the team withdrew from that thinking. In the end, Bangladesh could not match the equation and lost the match as well.
After defeating Bangladesh, Afghanistan advanced to the semi-finals. Opener Tamim Iqbal, who is out of the Bangladesh team, thinks that Bangladesh should have tried to chase Afghanistan’s capital of 115 runs in 12.1 overs.
“In my opinion, Bangladesh will be very disappointed,” Tamim told ESPNcricinfo. Bangladesh should have chased the run. Even in doing so they would have been all out by 70-80 runs, and they would have lost in the end. Bangladesh had an opportunity to do something special. Such an opportunity does not come very often.
Bangladesh lost their first two matches in Super Eight against Australia and India by a big margin. However, as Australia lost to Afghanistan and India, Bangladesh got a chance to go to the semi-finals.
Taking this issue, Tamim said, “You have a chance to go to the semi-finals in the last match without winning a match in the Super Eight.” You will probably do everything to achieve this goal. At times, it looked like Bangladesh would chase the runs. Then the wickets went, the intention was low in some overs, due to which the task became difficult for Bangladesh.
