Although he has resumed training, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto might not have fully recovered from his groin injury. As a result, he will miss the T20 series against the West Indies after already sitting out the Test and ODI series. Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das will lead the team in his absence.
While the second ODI between Bangladesh and the West Indies was underway in St. Kitts, the BCB announced the 15-member squad for the T20 series. Middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy has also been excluded due to a similar groin injury.
Afif Hossain, Shamim Hossain, and Nasum Ahmed make their return to the squad after a long absence. All three last played for Bangladesh in this format back in 2023.
Additionally, Ripon Mondol has earned a call-up. The 21-year-old pacer has represented Bangladesh in three T20, all during the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, in October last year.
Litton has previously captained Bangladesh in nine matches across formats, winning four. However, his only experience as a T20 captain came during the 2021 tour of New Zealand, where Bangladesh lost by 65 runs in Auckland, with Litton being dismissed for a golden duck.
The three-match T20 series against the West Indies begins on December 16, with the remaining matches scheduled for December 18 and 20. All matches will take place in St. Vincent.
