Changing captains midway through the BPL is nothing new. It has happened before, and it has happened again. Durbar Rajshahi has decided to replace Anamul Haque as captain, handing over the responsibility to Taskin Ahmed. The BPL franchise announced this decision today in a press release.
Rajshahi currently sits fifth in the points table with 6 points from 3 wins and 5 losses in 8 matches. Despite scoring a century in yesterday’s match against Khulna Tigers, captain Anamul Haque couldn’t guide his team to victory, falling short by 17 runs in the final over.
According to the press release from Rajshahi’s team management, the decision to relieve Anamul of captaincy was made to allow him to focus more on his batting. Additionally, sources within the team revealed that the management had initially planned to hand over the captaincy to Taskin Ahmed at some stage of the tournament. They now feel the time is right for Taskin to take up the responsibility.
On Taskin’s new role as captain, the press release stated, “For the remaining matches of this BPL season, experienced pacer Taskin Ahmed will be our new captain.”
Both Anamul and Taskin have been among the standout performers in this year’s BPL. Anamul, with 324 runs in 8 innings at an average of 54 and a strike rate of 141.48, including a century, is the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer so far. Meanwhile, Taskin leads the wicket-takers’ chart with 18 wickets in as many innings.
Even though Anamul remained unbeaten on 100 off 57 balls in the match against Khulna, he appeared visibly emotional during the post-match presentation after failing to secure victory for his team in the last over.
The press release also acknowledged Anamul’s contributions, stating, “The management believes that he should focus solely on his batting without the added pressure of captaincy. This will help him stay even more focused on the team’s goal of making it to the playoffs.
