In the BPL, Taskin Ahmed has surpassed Shakib Al Hasan’s record for the most wickets in a single season.
A delivery from Taskin hit Rakibul Hasan’s pads, and after a brief appeal from the Durbar Rajshahi captain, the umpire raised his finger. With that, the record books were rewritten. Taskin now holds the record for the most wickets in a single BPL season, overtaking Shakib Al Hasan.
The wicket of Rakibul from the Rangpur Riders was Taskin’s second in the match and his 24th in this tournament. This broke Shakib’s record of 23 wickets, which he set in the 2018-19 BPL while playing for Dhaka Dynamites. Shakib played 15 matches that season, whereas Taskin achieved the record in just 11 matches.
Taskin matched Shakib’s record in the first over of the innings when he dismissed Steven Taylor, who was caught by wicketkeeper Akbar Ali.
- 24 wickets – Taskin Ahmed, Durbar Rajshahi, 2024–25 (11 matches)

Despite controversies, if Rajshahi makes it to the playoffs, Taskin could dream of breaking the world record. However, that would be a tough challenge. The world record for the most wickets in a single T20 tournament is 33, held by Alfonso Thomas (England, 2010) and David Payne (England, 2024). Thomas achieved it in 19 matches, while Payne did so in 17.
