Jeff Allardice has stepped down from his position as the ICC Chief Executive after serving for four years. He cited his decision to “take on a new challenge” as the main reason for his departure.
Allardice joined the ICC in 2012 after serving as the Cricket Operations Manager at Cricket Australia. He initially worked as the ICC’s General Manager for Cricket and was appointed the full-time CEO in November 2021, having served as the acting CEO for eight months prior.
The ICC confirmed Allardice’s resignation in a statement on Tuesday, with Allardice stating that now is the right time to step down.
“It has been an honor to serve as the Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council,” he said. “I am incredibly proud of the results we have achieved, from the global growth of cricket to establishing a commercial foundation for ICC members.”
He continued, “I would like to thank the ICC Chairman, the Board of Directors, and the entire cricket community for their support and collaboration over the past 13 years. I believe the time is right for me to step down and embrace a new challenge. I am confident that exciting times lie ahead for cricket, and I wish the ICC and the global cricket community continued success in the future.”
Allardice’s resignation comes just two months after Jay Shah, the former Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, took over as the ICC Chairman on December 1.
Jay Shah expressed gratitude to Allardice for his dedicated service, saying, “On behalf of the ICC Board, I would like to sincerely thank Jeff for his leadership and commitment as CEO. His efforts in advancing global cricket have played a vital role, and we are truly grateful for his service. We wish him all the best for the future.”
The ICC also announced that they would take the next steps in appointing Allardice’s successor.
