Tanzid Hasan wrapped up his BPL season with a record-breaking 36 sixes—the most by a Bangladeshi batsman in a single edition of the tournament.
His final innings ended in frustration as he attempted to cut a rising delivery from William Bosisto but was caught at point. Disappointed, he struck his bat in frustration before walking off. Despite the unceremonious exit, the left-handed opener entertained the crowd with seven sixes in his knock, extending his record tally.
At Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, Tanzid started explosively, smashing three sixes off Nasum Ahmed in the very first over. He added four more maximums before getting dismissed for 58 off 37 balls, visibly disappointed as he returned to the dressing room.
Throughout the tournament, he cleared the ropes 36 times—surpassing Towhid Hridoy’s previous record of 24 sixes in a single BPL season. Hridoy had achieved that mark in 14 innings last year, while Tanzid broke it in just 12 innings.
Overall, the record for the most sixes in a BPL season still belongs to Chris Gayle, who hammered 47 sixes in 11 innings for Rangpur Riders in 2017. With Dhaka Capitals failing to qualify for the playoffs, Tanzid won’t get the chance to chase Gayle’s milestone.
His six-hitting spree took off in the latter half of the tournament. After managing just eight sixes in his first six matches, he exploded with 28 sixes in the next six games. His best came against Durbar Rajshahi, where he blasted eight sixes in a 64-ball 108.
In his final match against Khulna Tigers, he started aggressively, smashing three sixes in the first over. He added two more in the third over and another two off consecutive overs from Mehidy Hasan Miraz. By the time he reached 45 off just 18 balls, 42 of his runs had come via sixes. However, his scoring slowed, taking 10 more balls to reach his fifty before eventually finishing with 58 off 37.
Tanzid ended the tournament with 485 runs at an average of 44.09 and a strike rate of 141.39, including four fifties and a century. He currently leads the tournament’s run charts.
Despite his stellar season, Tanzid missed out on the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Last season, he finished fourth among top scorers with 384 runs for Chattogram Challengers.
Among Bangladeshi batsmen, only three have scored more runs in a single BPL season than Tanzid—Najmul Hossain Shanto (516 in 2023), Tamim Iqbal (492 in 2024), and Mushfiqur Rahim (491 in 2019).
