BCB Forms Independent Committee to Assist Anti-Corruption Unit in BPL Investigation
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formed a three-member independent investigation committee to assist the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) in probing various allegations and controversies surrounding this season’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Following reports of match-fixing and unethical activities in the ongoing BPL, the BCB decided to establish the independent committee to support the investigation process.
In an official statement on Monday, the country’s cricket governing body announced the formation of the committee, stating, “This committee will assist the board and the BCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit in the investigation process.”
The committee is led by former Appellate Division Justice Mirza Hossain Haider, with former cricketer Shakil Kasem and international lawyer Dr. Khaled H. Chowdhury as the other two members.
As the tournament nears its conclusion, reports have emerged in the media alleging suspicious activities in over 20% of the matches this season. Additionally, it has been reported that more than 40 cricketers have been questioned by the Anti-Corruption Unit regarding their suspected involvement.
In response to these concerns, the BCB had announced on Saturday that an independent committee would be formed to uphold the integrity and spirit of cricket by assisting the ACU in its investigations. Just two days later, the board confirmed the names of the committee members.
With only two matches remaining in this controversy-ridden BPL season—the second qualifier on Wednesday and the final on Friday—the committee’s findings will be closely watched.
