BCB Takes Full Charge of Foreign Players in BPL to Ensure Transparency
Despite an electrifying finale last night, the 11th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) ended with lingering concerns over player payments. The issue of unpaid salaries, particularly for foreign players, sparked widespread criticism both domestically and internationally.
To prevent such controversies in the future, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stepped in, announcing a new initiative to take full responsibility for all foreign cricketers participating in the BPL draft.
In an official press release, BCB outlined three key measures:
- Direct Salary Management: BCB will now oversee all contracts and match fees of foreign players in the BPL draft, ensuring timely and transparent payments.
- Logistical Support: The board will manage all travel and accommodation arrangements for foreign players, ensuring they reach their destinations smoothly after the tournament.
- Stronger Financial Protocols with Franchises: BCB aims to establish stricter financial guidelines to safeguard player payments and maintain transparency.
BCB President Faruk Ahmed stated, “This initiative reflects our commitment to maintaining transparency in the BPL and providing a professional experience for both local and international players. We will continue working with stakeholders to strengthen financial and operational aspects.”
This announcement comes just a day after the BPL final, following weeks of payment disputes. The tournament saw multiple controversies, with Durbar Rajshahi making headlines for failing to pay players and coaching staff. Reports surfaced of players boycotting training, foreign cricketers refusing to play due to unpaid wages, multiple bounced checks, and even foreign players being stranded at hotels. Chittagong Kings also faced similar issues regarding player payments.
With BCB taking charge, the league now aims for a more structured and transparent approach to financial management in the coming seasons.
