The day before yesterday, Legends of Rupganj made a big announcement about signing Shakib Al Hasan, and later, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) officially confirmed his transfer to the Dhaka Premier League. However, just one day later, Rupganj has applied to withdraw Shakib’s name.
Previously, Shakib had signed up for Chittagong Kings for the BPL but couldn’t play. Since the political changes on August 5, he has been unable to return to the country. He also couldn’t say goodbye to Test cricket after playing against South Africa in Mirpur, and during this period, his bowling action was questioned and later banned.
Yesterday, after Shakib’s inclusion in the team, Lutfor Rahman Badal, the owner of Legends of Rupganj, had expressed optimism about his participation. However, the club’s general secretary, Tariqul Islam Titu, explained today that Shakib requested them to suspend his transfer, so they sent a letter to the CCDM.
When asked whether Rupganj can remove Shakib from the transfer list, CCDM’s member secretary Sajjad Hossain told Prothom Alo, “Our usual process is that once the transfer window closes, we send the player list to all the clubs. At that point, clubs can remove any player if they request. We can then remove Shakib’s name as per their application.”
Today marks the end of the two-day Premier League transfer window, with the tournament scheduled to start in the first week of March.
