David Warner, the former Australian opener, is all set to make his debut in Telugu cinema. Although there were rumors that he would appear in the second installment of the film Pushpa, he was not part of it. However, Warner will now be seen in the movie Robinhood.
In this Telugu-language film, the lead role will be played by Telugu hero Nithin. The news of Warner’s involvement has been confirmed by the movie’s producer, Ravi Shankar.
Several Indian media outlets, including Economic Times, have reported that Warner’s role will be a cameo. For his appearance, he will reportedly earn one crore rupees per day. Warner’s connection with the Telugu-speaking community is not new; he played 95 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad over seven seasons in the IPL.
Warner led Hyderabad to its only IPL title, and despite changing teams, he remains deeply connected to the city. His popularity is such that he frequently appears in various advertisements, including some with Telugu filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli. Warner is often considered a “local boy” in Hyderabad, and the film’s production company plans to leverage his fame for the movie.
Warner’s participation in Robinhood has come as a pleasant surprise to his fans. Indian publication The Statesman reported that after the announcement, the film’s producer, Ravi Shankar, even apologized to director Venky Kudumula for leaking the information.
Once the news broke, social media erupted with excitement. One fan commented, “Welcome to Indian cinema,” while another wrote, “Warner in a new avatar. He’s in Nithin’s Robinhood.” Another fan said, “Unexpected combo—Nithin and David Warner. Can’t wait for the movie.”
The release of Robinhood, originally scheduled for last December, has now been rescheduled for March 28.
