For the first time in List ‘A’ cricket, a Bangladeshi team has crossed the 400-run mark, breaking India’s previous record of 409 runs on Bangladeshi soil.
Prime Bank Cricket Club achieved this historic feat with a blistering 422/8 against Brothers Union at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The explosive opening partnership of Sabbir Hossain and Mohammad Naim Sheikh set the stage for this record-breaking innings. While Sabbir departed early, Naim continued his onslaught. After his dismissal just short of a double century, Sajjadul Haque and Abdullah Al Mamun provided the finishing touches to propel Prime Bank to an unprecedented total.
Previously, the highest List ‘A’ total in Bangladesh was India’s 409/8 in December 2022 at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, courtesy of Ishan Kishan’s double century.
In the Dhaka Premier League, the record belonged to Abahani Limited, who scored 393/4 against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club in March 2018. Prime Bank had come close twice—posting 388/5 against Shinepukur Cricket Club in 2022 (boosted by Anamul Haque’s 184) and 380 against Brothers Union last year.
This time, they finally breached the 400-run mark, thanks to Naim Sheikh’s explosive batting. The left-handed opener smashed a career-best 176 off just 125 balls, hitting 18 fours and 8 sixes.
Dominant Batting Display from Prime Bank
Winning the toss, Brothers Union opted to field, but Sabbir and Naim launched an immediate assault. Their opening stand yielded 140 runs in just 110 balls.
Sabbir raced to 50 off 44 balls but fell for 73 off 63, laced with 9 fours and 4 sixes. However, Naim ensured the scoring rate didn’t drop, adding 86 runs in 68 balls for the second wicket with Zakir Hasan.
Though Zakir and Shahadat Hossain failed to make significant contributions, Naim remained unstoppable. He reached his half-century in 38 balls and took just 82 balls to notch up his ninth List ‘A’ century. From there, he accelerated further, racing from 100 to 150 in just 24 balls.
By the 37th over, Prime Bank had already amassed 300 runs. However, in the next over, Naim fell to Salauddin Shakil, caught at cover, ending his hopes of a double century. His 176 now stands as the fourth-highest individual score in Dhaka Premier League history.
Shamim Hossain tried to maintain momentum with an aggressive start, hitting a boundary off his first ball, but managed only 16 off 8 balls.
As the innings progressed, the run rate slightly slowed, and for a moment, it seemed Prime Bank might fall short of 400. However, Mamun and Sajjadul took charge, adding 84 runs in just 52 balls for the sixth wicket.
Mamun smashed 40 off 22 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes), while Sajjadul remained unbeaten on 50 off 37 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes.
For Brothers Union, Al-Amin Hossain was the most successful bowler, claiming 3 wickets but conceding 77 runs in his 10 overs. All seven of their bowlers had an economy rate of over 7 per over.
A New Milestone in Bangladeshi Cricket
Prime Bank’s record-breaking 422/8 not only rewrites Dhaka Premier League history but also sets a new benchmark for List ‘A’ cricket in Bangladesh. This incredible performance will surely be remembered as a defining moment in the country’s domestic cricket scene.
