“The Show Must Go On” — That’s How Nature Works
No matter what happens in this world, “The show must go on.” That’s exactly what we witnessed today at BKSP. Even when Mohammedan captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack and was at the brink of life and death, the team did not stop playing.
Interestingly, just a few days ago, Spanish club Barcelona had requested to postpone their match when one of their doctors passed away just hours before kickoff. Their match was eventually postponed and rescheduled for a later date.
So, why wasn’t the match postponed after Tamim’s incident? That’s the question everyone is asking. But no, Mohammedan wasn’t forced to continue playing. In fact, they wanted to keep the atmosphere in the dressing room as normal as possible and chose to carry on with the match — and that’s exactly what they did.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that match referee Debabrata Pal was unaware of whether the game was even happening at that time. He was with Tamim from the very beginning, leaving the entire responsibility of match supervision to the umpires.
Later, CCDM’s DPL coordinator Sabbir Ahmed Rubel stated that he personally contacted the Mohammedan club authorities to ask if they wanted the match to be called off. However, Mohammedan management confirmed that they preferred to continue playing. After discussing it with everyone in the dressing room, the team’s manager, Sajjad Ahmed Shipon, officially announced the decision to play on.
