All-rounder Sean Williams is fit and ready for the Bangladesh tour after recovering from a back injury. Another experienced campaigner, Craig Ervine, has also rejoined the team after taking personal leave.
Zimbabwe has announced a full-strength squad for the two-match Test series in Bangladesh, bringing back key veterans. Alongside Williams and Ervine, left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza also returns to the 15-member squad.
Ervine had stepped away from the Ireland Test in February to be with his family for the birth of his child. Now, he’s back from leave and ready to lead the side as captain. Williams missed that game due to his back problem.
In total, Zimbabwe has made three changes from the preliminary squad that was named for the Ireland Test.
Wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga returns to the national team for the first time since making his debut against West Indies in 2023. He replaces Joylord Gumbie in the squad.
Young pacer Newman Nyauchi makes way for the returning left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza. Top-order batter Takudzwanashe Kaitano has also been dropped. Meanwhile, Wesley Madhevere, who was a late inclusion in the Ireland Test squad as Ervine’s replacement, has retained his place.
Blessing Muzarabani, who made headlines with a 7-wicket haul in the first innings of Zimbabwe’s last Test, will lead the pace attack. He will be joined by left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava. The only uncapped player in the squad is leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa.
This will be Zimbabwe’s first Test series in Bangladesh since 2020. On that tour, they suffered an innings defeat in the only Test match.
The upcoming series will begin on April 20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The second Test will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram starting April 28.
