Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell of Punjab Kings has been fined and handed a demerit point.
Maxwell was fined 25 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Alongside the fine, the Aussie star also received a demerit point.
The incident occurred during Tuesday’s match against Chennai Super Kings. In a statement released the following day, the IPL confirmed that Maxwell had violated a Level 1 offense under its code of conduct.
However, the specific details of Maxwell’s misconduct were not disclosed by the IPL. The Australian cricketer, however, accepted the match referee’s punishment without objection.
In the match at Mullanpur, Maxwell failed to make an impact with the bat—he scored just 1 run off 2 deliveries before being caught and bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin. With the ball, he bowled two overs, conceding 11 runs and taking one wicket.
Thanks to a brilliant 103-run knock from Prabhsimran Arya and a solid 52 from Shashank Singh, Punjab posted a total of 219. In response, they restricted Chennai to 201 and secured an 18-run victory.
Maxwell has yet to make a mark in this year’s IPL. He started the tournament with a duck against Gujarat Titans, didn’t get a chance to bat against Lucknow Super Giants, and scored 30 off 21 balls in the match against Rajasthan Royals.
With the ball, Maxwell has taken only three wickets in four matches. Despite his personal struggles, Punjab Kings are off to a strong start, winning three out of their first four games.
Punjab’s next match is scheduled for Saturday, where they’ll face Sunrisers Hyderabad.
