Indian pacer Mayank Yadav is all set to return to action after recovering from injury.
The wait is finally over for Mayank Yadav’s comeback. The lightning-fast pacer is expected to be back in action for the Lucknow Super Giants very soon.
According to cricket website ESPNcricinfo, the 22-year-old will join the team on Tuesday. There’s a strong chance he will be available for Lucknow’s next game.
On Monday, Lucknow faced Chennai Super Kings at home. Their next match is scheduled for Saturday against Rajasthan Royals.
Media reports suggest that Mayank had been undergoing rehab for a stress-related injury. He has been out of action since the series against Bangladesh last October.
Not having Mayank available so far in the IPL has been a big blow for the Lucknow Super Giants. The fast bowler, who earned INR 20 lakh in the last edition, was retained this season for a whopping INR 11 crore.
Mayank caught the attention of Indian and global cricket fans alike when he made his debut for Lucknow last season. He was named Player of the Match in his first two games, picking up three wickets in each. Bowling consistently over 150 km/h, he quickly became one of Indian cricket’s brightest new sensations. His performance earned him a spot in the national fast bowlers’ contract list.
However, after just four matches, a side strain forced Mayank out of the IPL. During his recovery, another injury setback further delayed his return. He finally made his international debut in October against Bangladesh in a T20I series, where he took four wickets in three games.
Unfortunately, he suffered another injury soon after and has been out of action since. Now, he’s once again on the verge of making his long-awaited return.
Lucknow is currently without pacers Avesh Khan and Akash Deep, who are both still recovering from injuries. They have played five and three matches respectively this season. Another pacer, Mohsin Khan, has already been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. In his absence, Shardul Thakur has stepped in and performed well. But the return of Mayank would give the team an even bigger boost.
After six matches in the season so far, Lucknow sits at fourth place on the table with 8 points.
