In challenging conditions, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque held their ground with grit and patience, putting together a crucial 50-run partnership for the second wicket.
The day began with heavy showers that washed out the entire first session. Play eventually began at 1:00 PM, three hours later than scheduled, with Bangladesh resuming from their overnight score of 57 for 1 after 13 overs. Joy started the day on 28 (42 balls), while Mominul was on 15 (26 balls).
Despite the tricky pitch and some extra bounce, both batters showed solid technique and temperament. Their partnership, built on calm and calculated batting, came off 78 balls — a key stand in stabilizing the innings after the early dismissal of Shadman Islam.
After 17 overs, Bangladesh reached 65 for 1. Joy remained unbeaten on 33 from 54 deliveries, while Mominul stood firm with 18 off 38 balls. Their resilience has given Bangladesh a strong base to build upon in the remaining sessions.
Interrupted Start to the Day
The morning was marred by continuous drizzle, which had started the previous night. Although there was a brief pause early in the morning, the rain returned around 9:30 AM, forcing the ground staff to keep the pitch covered. The first hour of play was entirely washed out, and even ground preparation couldn’t begin until late morning due to the wet conditions.
It wasn’t until around 11:30 AM that the sun finally broke through the clouds. Umpires carried out an informal inspection as ground staff worked swiftly to remove water from the covers and dry the outfield.
The revised schedule set the start of the second session at 1:00 PM, followed by tea at 3:20 PM. The third and final session of the day is expected to begin at 3:40 PM and continue until 6:00 PM, provided the weather holds.
