Jawad Abrar scored his second century in three matches as Bangladesh U19 crushed Sri Lanka with another dominant performance in the Youth ODI series, marking their third consecutive victory.
He once again led the way for Bangladesh, helping them secure a commanding 3-1 lead in the six-match series—and ensuring the hosts can no longer lose the series.
The momentum has shifted dramatically since the first match, which Sri Lanka won easily. But after that, the visitors have completely turned things around. With today’s convincing victory, Bangladesh confirmed their dominance and have now won three games in a row.
Jawad, who played a match-winning knock in the second match with an unbeaten century, continued his great form with another commanding hundred.
In the fourth Youth ODI of the series, held in Colombo on Saturday, Bangladesh posted a massive 336 runs for 8 wickets in their 50 overs, and then bowled out Sri Lanka for just 190 runs, winning by a massive 146-run margin.
This total is now Bangladesh’s highest ever in a Youth ODI outside the country. Overall, it ranks second only to the 340 they scored against Sri Lanka in Chittagong in 2019.
Back in that match, the century came from Towhid Hridoy. This time, it was Jawad Abrar. In the second ODI last Monday, he had remained unbeaten on 130 off 106 balls. This time, he scored 113 off 115 balls.
He has now become just the fourth Bangladeshi opener to score two centuries in Youth ODIs.
Middle-order batter Rizan Hossain also played a crucial role, scoring 82 off 77 balls. Later, the lower order chipped in with important cameos to boost the total further.
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat at the Colombo Cricket Club ground. Jawad started aggressively—hitting a four off the very first ball and another off the third. He struck the match’s first six in the fourth over.
His opening partner Kalam Siddique also looked solid. The pair added 49 runs in the first 7 overs, hitting six boundaries and one six.
Kalam was eventually dismissed for 19 runs off 24 balls. Then Jawad and captain Azizul Hakim added 38 runs for the second wicket before Azizul was run out for 23 off 31 balls.
The most crucial partnership came next—between Jawad and Rizan Hossain. Together, they added 135 runs for the fourth wicket.
Jawad reached his fifty off 45 balls and then focused on building a big innings. Rizan took his time initially but grew confident after hitting a six off Sanuja Ninduvara. He then smashed two more sixes off leg-spinner Himal Ravihansa.
The runs started flowing. Rizan brought up his first Youth ODI half-century off 49 balls.
Jawad, who was on 95, reached his century with a six off Dulanith Sigera. He then hit a four, but was dismissed shortly after for 113 runs from 115 balls, including 14 fours and 3 sixes.
Rizan continued until the 44th over before being dismissed for 82 off 77 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
The final 10 overs saw a powerful finish. Bangladesh added 110 runs in that period.
Wicketkeeper Mohammad Abdullah smashed 32 off 27 balls with two sixes. Debashish Deba scored 21 off 11 balls. Samiun Bashir blasted 23 from just 8 balls with 3 sixes. Al Fahad, coming in at No. 9, remained unbeaten on 19 off just 5 balls.
In fact, Bangladesh scored 85 runs in the last 6 overs alone.
Sri Lanka’s bowling fell apart. Rasith Nimsara gave away 96 runs in 10 overs—the most ever by a Sri Lankan in Youth ODIs, and the fourth-worst spell in Youth ODI history.
In reply, Sri Lanka’s innings collapsed early. Al Fahad removed opener Dulanith Sigera for a duck, and debutant Sanjid Majumder sent back Rehan Peiris for just 1.
Captain Azizul Hakim picked up a wicket in the sixth over.
Chamika Hinatigala tried to counterattack with a quick 30 off 18 balls, hitting seven fours, but Al Fahad bowled him to leave Sri Lanka struggling at 36/4.
Captain Denura Dinsara fought back with a resilient 66 off 72 balls. Kavija Gamage chipped in with 23.
Lower down, Rasith Nimsara scored 39 off 29 balls to reduce the margin, but Sri Lanka were bowled out 68 balls before their allotted overs.
