Rajasthan Royals’ Indian batter pulled off a remarkable feat in the IPL with a flurry of sixes.
Riyan Parag made history in the IPL with a destructive innings that earned him a place in the record books — one where no other player had ever set foot.
At Eden Gardens on Sunday, during a chase against Kolkata Knight Riders, Parag unleashed a storm with the bat. Across two overs, he smashed six sixes in a row.
He is now the first player in IPL history to hit six consecutive sixes off six legal deliveries. Before him, four players — Chris Gayle, Rahul Tewatia, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rinku Singh — had hit five in a row, but none managed six.
Coming in at number four, Parag scored a blistering 95 off just 45 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 6 fours. His onslaught peaked in the 13th over, when he went after Moeen Ali.
Shimron Hetmyer gave him the strike with a single on the first ball. Parag then brought up his half-century off 27 balls with a six over deep square leg. The third ball went flying over long-on, followed by two more sixes over the leg side and long-on. After Moeen bowled a wide, Parag launched the final delivery over long-off — completing four sixes in that over alone. Moeen Ali’s over ended up conceding 32 runs.
But Parag’s assault didn’t stop there. In the following over, he again got the strike early. Facing mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, Parag smashed the very first delivery over the ropes — making him the first-ever player to hit six sixes in six consecutive deliveries in IPL history.
His whirlwind innings ended in the 18th over, when he was caught off Harshit Rana, falling just 5 runs short of what could’ve been his maiden T20 century.
After his dismissal, Rajasthan Royals needed 33 runs from the final two overs. In the 19th, Jofra Archer and Shivam Dube managed just 11 runs.
With 22 needed off the final over, Rajasthan started with 3 runs from the first two balls. Then Dube turned up the heat — smashing a six, a four, and another six off Vaibhav Arora to turn the match around. But with 3 runs needed off the final ball, Archer was run out while trying to complete a second run after a pinpoint yorker. Kolkata Knight Riders clinched a nail-biting 1-run victory.
