After an emergency informal meeting regarding the recent developments, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not yet announced a final decision on the Pakistan tour.
Due to the ongoing conflict between neighboring countries India and Pakistan, questions have arisen about Bangladesh’s upcoming tour to Pakistan. However, the BCB has made it clear that they will not rush any decisions and will closely observe the overall situation before making a call.
While the Pakistan tour remains undecided, there is no uncertainty surrounding the two-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates. According to the schedule, the Bangladesh team will depart for the UAE on Wednesday morning.
To discuss the recent situation, BCB President Faruq Ahmed called an informal meeting on Saturday afternoon. After a lengthy discussion, a press release was issued, stating that the board will ensure the players’ safety before making any decisions.
“Active discussions are ongoing with the PCB regarding Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of Pakistan. The BCB reiterates that the safety and security of the players and support staff is the board’s highest priority.”
“Taking Pakistan’s current situation into careful consideration, all decisions about the upcoming tour will be made to align with the best interests of the team and Bangladesh cricket as a whole.”
As per the current itinerary, Bangladesh will play two T20 matches against the UAE on May 17 and 19 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. After that, players like Litton Kumar Das and Sheikh Mehedi Hasan are scheduled to fly to Pakistan on May 21.
However, the future of the Pakistan tour is now uncertain due to the unfolding geopolitical scenario. A BCB director who attended the emergency meeting told bdnews24.com—on condition of anonymity—that a decision on the Pakistan series may be taken after the UAE tour.
Later the same day, interim government sports advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan inaugurated a talent search program titled “In Search of the Best Swimmer – Bangladesh 2025” at the National Swimming Complex in Mirpur.
Responding to questions from reporters, he expressed concern over the Pakistan tour given the current circumstances.
“As far as I know, the BCB is still in discussions. They will announce the final decision. But considering the current situation, taking any kind of risk would not be wise. The Pakistan Embassy has also informed us about the potential security threats. The BCB will make the final call.”
