The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been keeping an eye on Bangladesh ever since the overall situation in the country deteriorated after the student movement. The world cricket governing body has even considered the alternative of where the women’s T20 World Cup will be held unofficially if Bangladesh does not host it. Where the names of India, United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka are discussed.
The ICC has contacted the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to ensure the safety of all those involved in the World Cup scheduled to be held in Bangladesh in October. The country’s cricket board also has to start struggling to organize the World Cup at home.
However, after the fall of the government, it is said that some of the board officials supported by the Awami League government are not in the country. Those who are in the country are trying to hold the World Cup in Bangladesh. After receiving the mail from ICC, BCB has written to Bangladesh Army chief Walker-uz-Zaman seeking security for hosting the World Cup.
BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury will talk to ICC after getting the answer from the army. An official who did not want to be named told CricFrenzy that they will clarify their position to the ICC on August 11 or 12. He also confirmed that BCB is very confident in organizing 10-team women’s T20.
