Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman have been long-time participants in the IPL. While Shakib hasn’t played since 2021, Mustafizur is still an active player in the league. In the upcoming IPL, other Bangladeshi cricketers could also get their chance.
However, this depends on whether any franchise picks them in the auction. A total of 12 Bangladeshi players are listed in the IPL auction this year. Today, the IPL authorities released the final list of players set to go under the hammer.
Initially, 1,584 cricketers had registered for the auction, but after scrutiny, a list of 574 players was finalized. One Bangladeshi player, however, did not make it to the final list. This year’s IPL mega auction will be held in Jeddah on November 24 and 25, marking one of the biggest player bidding events in cricket.
Shakib and Mustafizur, who have long represented Bangladesh in the IPL, are among the 12 players on the final list. Shakib has played nine IPL seasons, including seven with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2011 to 2017. During this period, he played a crucial role in KKR’s championship wins in 2012 and 2014. Shakib also played two seasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Mustafizur has been a regular in the IPL since 2016. Apart from these two, Litton Das is another Bangladeshi player with IPL experience, having appeared in one match for KKR in 2023.
The other players on the final list, who are yet to make their IPL debut, include Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shariful Islam, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Tanzim Hasan, Mehedi Hasan, Nahid Rana, and Hasan Mahmud. Although there was interest from a few IPL teams in Taskin in the past, he hasn’t yet made it to the league for various reasons.
Over two days, 574 cricketers will go under the hammer, including 366 Indians and 208 overseas players. Among them, three players are from ICC associate member nations. The list also includes 318 uncapped Indian players and 12 uncapped overseas players. Franchises can pick up to 204 players in total, with 70 spots reserved for overseas cricketers.
