The 1893 County Championship marked the fourth edition of the first-class competition in England. Nine teams participated in the league system, which spanned from 11 May until 28 August. Matches were played over three days, with a scoring system that awarded one point for a win and deducted one point for every loss.
Yorkshire secured the title for the first time, successfully interrupting the streak of three consecutive championships previously held by Surrey. This victory defined the season, as nine teams competed across 72 matches in total to determine the winner.
Individual performances stood out throughout the summer. William Gunn delivered for Nottinghamshire by scoring 1,223 runs, the highest total for any player during the tournament. Meanwhile, J. T. Hearne dominated with the ball, taking 137 wickets for Middlesex.
