The 1908 County Championship marked the 19th running of this first-class cricket competition in England. Sixteen teams competed in the league system, which spanned from 4 May until 31 August. Each match took place over three days of play.
Yorkshire dominated the season and secured their eighth championship title. Kent finished the tournament in second place, while the previous season's winners, Nottinghamshire, slipped down to eighth. An unusual highlight occurred in May when Yorkshire bowled Northamptonshire out for scores of 27 and 14, setting a record for the lowest aggregate in first-class cricket at that time.
Individual performers dictated the pace of the competition throughout the summer. Surrey batsman Tom Hayward led the scoring charts with 1,874 runs. Meanwhile, Kent bowler Colin Blythe dominated the attacks, taking 167 wickets.
The league table relied on a specific points system. Teams earned one point for a win and lost one point for every defeat. Final rankings depended on the percentage of points earned based on the number of completed matches, calculated by dividing the points by the number of matches that ended in a win or loss and multiplying the result by 100.
