Ranji Trophy 1941–42

The 1941–42 Ranji Trophy marked the eighth edition of India's premier first-class competition. Eighteen teams participated in the knockout tournament, which consisted of 17 matches in total. Bombay emerged as the champions, securing their third title by defeating Mysore in the final.

Bombay's success relied heavily on K. C. Ibrahim, who dominated the batting charts with 469 runs during the season. On the bowling side, B. K. Garudachar of Mysore proved exceptionally effective, finishing the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 34 scalps.

The season featured several individual milestones and notable performances. A. G. Ram Singh achieved the rare double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in Ranji Trophy history, joining Amar Singh as the only players to reach that mark at the time. Meanwhile, Northern India recorded a massive win over North West Frontier Province by an innings and 405 runs, which stood as the biggest margin of victory in the competition for decades.

Other debuts and individual displays left their mark on the season. Putu Chowdhury claimed 11 wickets in his first-class debut for Bihar, though his side suffered a narrow loss to Bengal by a single run on the first innings. Madhav Mantri also made an immediate impact during his semifinal debut for Bombay, where he claimed nine wickets, including five stumpings. In an early shock, the defending champions Maharashtra were dismissed for just 39 runs against Nawanagar after Shute Banerjee took eight wickets for 25 runs.
