The twenty sixth season of the Ranji Trophy brought twenty four teams together for first class cricket matches across India. The competition used a knockout format to decide the winner. Bombay claimed the championship by defeating Mysore in the final, securing their eleventh title in the tournament. Bombay won the toss in that final match and elected to bat first.
Individual players produced standout statistics during the season. Rusi Surti from Rajasthan scored the most runs with five hundred and thirty nine. B Y Alva playing for Mysore took the most wickets with thirty six dismissals.
Asif Iqbal made his first class debut for Hyderabad against Kerala during this season. He later moved to Pakistan after two years and eventually captained the Pakistan team in Test cricket.
