Ranji Trophy 1975–76

The 1975–76 Ranji Trophy marked the 42nd season of the top-tier first-class cricket competition in India. A total of 24 teams participated in the tournament, which utilized a combination of league stages and knockout rounds to determine the winner. The season followed the standard first-class cricket format, testing the endurance and skill of squads across the country.

Bombay claimed the title once again, securing their 26th championship by defeating Bihar in the final match. Bihar won the toss at the start of the final and chose to bat first, but they could not stop the momentum of the dominant Bombay side.

Individual performances defined the statistical landscape of the year. Yajurvindra Singh of Maharashtra led all players in scoring, finishing the tournament with 583 runs. On the bowling side, Abdul Ismail of the champion Bombay team proved most effective, claiming 38 wickets throughout the season.

This edition also saw the professional arrival of a future legend. A 16-year-old Kapil Dev made his first-class debut for Haryana in a match against Punjab. He immediately showcased his potential by taking 6 for 39 in the first innings and adding 2 for 78 in the second.
