The 2003–04 Ranji Trophy marked the 70th edition of this first-class tournament. Held in India, the season featured 27 teams competing in a structured format that combined league matches with a knockout stage to determine the ultimate winner.
The Elite Group knockout stage saw Mumbai, Railways, Tamil Nadu, and Hyderabad advance to compete for the championship. In the final, Tamil Nadu won the toss and sent Mumbai in to bat. Mumbai secured their 36th title by establishing a first-innings lead over Tamil Nadu.
Individual performances stood out throughout the season. Maharashtra batsman Dheeraj Jadhav led the run-scoring charts with 1066 runs, while Madhya Pradesh bowler Narendra Hirwani claimed the most wickets with a total of 45.
While Mumbai claimed the main championship, the season also included a separate achievement for Maharashtra, who secured the Plate division title.
