The 1902–03 Sheffield Shield season marked the 11th edition of the Australian first-class competition. Only three teams participated in the tournament, facing each other in a double round-robin format. Across the entire summer, the squads played a total of six matches to determine the winner.
New South Wales claimed the title, securing their fifth championship since the competition began. Their dominance was bolstered by the individual performance of Reggie Duff, who led the scoring charts with 583 runs over the course of the season.
While New South Wales took the honors, Victoria provided a significant challenge through the bowling of Bill Howell. He ended the competition as the leading wicket-taker, claiming 26 wickets throughout the six matches played.
