The 1919–20 Sheffield Shield marked the 28th edition of the Australian first-class cricket tournament. After the competition was paused for the previous year, the domestic season returned with three participating teams. New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia competed in a double round-robin format.
New South Wales claimed the title, marking their 14th championship win. The tournament consisted of six matches in total. Across those fixtures, every captain made the same tactical decision at the start of play; in all six matches, the team that won the toss elected to bat first.
Individual performances stood out throughout the season. Roy Park from Victoria led the batting statistics with 586 runs. On the bowling front, Hunter Hendry of New South Wales proved most effective by taking 22 wickets.
