The eighty-fourth edition of the Sheffield Shield ran as a first-class cricket tournament across Australia during the 1975 to 1976 season. Five teams contested the competition, playing a double round-robin format across twenty matches. South Australia claimed the championship title, marking the eleventh time the state won the competition.

Captain Ian Chappell led the batting charts with eight hundred forty runs and shared the player of the series award with Queensland player Greg Chappell. Ashley Mallett topped the bowling statistics by taking thirty-eight wickets for South Australia.
