The 1998–99 Sheffield Shield season marked the 107th edition of Australia's premier domestic first-class cricket competition. Six teams battled across thirty-one matches in a double round-robin format that ultimately led to the tournament final.
Western Australia claimed the championship for their fifteenth title in the history of the competition. Queensland won the toss and elected to bat in the final clash against them.
Matthew Elliott from Victoria dominated the batting charts by scoring 925 runs, which earned him both the most runs award and the player of the series accolade. On the bowling side, David Saker of Victoria took forty-five wickets to finish as the leading wicket-taker.
