The 2004–05 Sheffield Shield was the 113th edition of Australia's premier first-class cricket competition. Six teams battled through a double round-robin format across 31 matches before reaching the final.
New South Wales claimed the championship, securing their 44th title in the tournament's history. In the final, New South Wales won the toss and elected to field against their opponents.
Tasmania's Michael Bevan dominated with the bat, scoring 1,464 runs to finish as the leading run-scorer and claim the player of the series award. South Australia's Shaun Tait led the bowling charts by taking 65 wickets.
