The 1982 Women's Cricket World Cup was the third edition of the tournament and took place in New Zealand between 10 January and 7 February. Five teams participated in the event, which was played as a series of 60-over One Day International matches. The competition used a round-robin format followed by a final, a structure that allowed for a total of 31 matches across the tournament duration.
Australia, England, India, New Zealand, and an International XI made up the field. The tournament reached its conclusion at Lancaster Park in Christchurch, where Australia faced England in the final. England batted first and set a target of 152 runs. Australia successfully chased the total with six balls remaining, securing a three-wicket victory and claiming their second World Cup title.
Individual performances stood out throughout the month of play. England batter Jan Brittin finished as the leading run-scorer with 391 runs to her name. On the bowling side, Australia's Lyn Fullston proved highly effective, taking a tournament-high 23 wickets.
Although the tournament aimed to host five national sides, the Dutch team withdrew due to the financial costs involved, and the West Indies team pulled out as a protest. To fill the vacancy, organizers created an International XI, which played throughout the competition but did not record a win during the group stage.
