The ninth edition of the Women's Cricket World Cup took place in Australia between 7 and 22 March 2009. Eight teams participated in the tournament, which was played in the One Day International format. Six sides qualified automatically based on their performance in the previous tournament, while Pakistan and South Africa secured their spots through the 2008 qualifier.
The tournament featured 25 matches held across six venues in New South Wales. The competition structure included a group stage followed by a Super Six round-robin, which was a first for this event. Points from the group stage were carried forward into the Super Sixes for teams that advanced. The top two sides in the Super Six table met in the final, while other placement matches determined the remaining rankings.
England claimed their third World Cup title by defeating runners-up New Zealand in the final. England's success was reflected in the team of the tournament, which included five of their players. Claire Taylor was the standout individual performer of the competition, earning the player of the series award after finishing as the leading run-scorer with 324 runs.
Bowler Laura Marsh also had a significant impact on the tournament. She finished the event as the leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets to her name.
