Charles Zachary Bain was born in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, on 15 March 1913. Before he took his place behind the stumps as an umpire, he experienced the game as a player. During the early 1940s, he represented both North Trinidad and South Trinidad in Beaumont Cup matches.
Bain transitioned into officiating, where he oversaw six first-class matches between 1961 and 1968. Five of those games took place in Trinidad. His most significant assignment arrived in 1965 when he stood in a single Test match between the West Indies and Australia held at Port of Spain.
He died on 8 April 2007 at the age of 93 in his hometown of Arima.
