Lauren Agenbag is a South African umpire born on 16 August 1996 in Centurion. She made her breakthrough in February 2019 during a T20I match between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Newlands. This appearance earned her the distinction of being the first South African woman to umpire a T20I match. At just 22 years old during that debut, she stands as one of the youngest people to ever officiate an international cricket fixture.
Her career has expanded significantly across different formats. She has officiated in 87 WT20I matches between 2019 and 2026, along with 34 WODI matches from 2021 to 2026. She also worked 11 T20Is between 2022 and 2023. Beyond the white-ball game, Agenbag officiated in one Test match in 2024.
Agenbag has broken barriers in domestic cricket as well. In 2019, she became the first woman to umpire a senior men's provincial match in South Africa. Later that year, she achieved another milestone by becoming the first woman to stand as an on-field umpire in a South African first-class cricket match. Cricket South Africa appointed her to the Elite Umpires Panel in June 2023.
On the global stage, she reached a major milestone on 1 April 2022. The ICC selected her as an on-field umpire for the final of the Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. This appointment made her the youngest umpire to ever officiate in a Cricket World Cup final.
