Alfred Luther Kelly, born on 9 August 1954, spent years as a reliable right-handed opening batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler in the West Indian domestic circuit. Representing the Leeward Islands from 1976 to 1990 and the Combined Islands from 1980 to 1981, he established himself as a consistent presence in regional cricket. His best batting performance arrived in March 1985 when he scored 132 for a Shell Shield XI against New Zealand, his only first-class hundred. He also recorded 14 half-centuries, including a top score of 88 against the Windward Islands.
After hanging up his bat, Kelly transitioned to a career in umpiring. He officiated 22 first-class matches between 2002 and 2012, alongside 6 List A matches and 11 T20s. His involvement in the women's game was particularly notable, as he stood in 7 Women's ODIs and 7 Women's T20 Internationals between 2009 and 2012.
Kelly also earned appointments for 7 men's ODIs and 7 men's T20 Internationals during his time as an umpire. He is related to Sherwin Kelly, keeping the cricket connection within his family.
