Masudur Rahman, also known as Mukul, was born in Faridpur on 13 April 1975. Before stepping into international umpiring, he played domestic cricket in Bangladesh. His playing career spanned teams like Dhaka Metropolis, Barisal Division, and Dhaka Division. As a right-handed batsman and right-arm off break bowler, he played 12 matches, scored 301 runs with a top score of 59, and took 15 wickets.
The transition from playing to officiating brought a busy international career. Masudur Rahman made his List A umpiring debut in November 2007 and his first-class umpiring debut in December 2008. By October 2016, he stood in a one-day tour match between a Bangladesh Cricket Board Select XI and an England XI.
Men's international fixtures followed in early 2018. He stood in his first men's One Day International on 21 January 2018 during a match between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Shortly after, on 18 February 2018, he officiated his first men's Twenty20 International between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. His career stats include 28 men's ODIs, 51 men's T20Is, 11 women's ODIs, and 10 women's T20Is.
Major tournament appointments quickly filled his calendar. He officiated at the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa and returned for the 2024 Under-19 tournament. He stood as one of the on-field umpires for the 2022 Asia Cup final in Dubai and returned for the 2023 Asia Cup.
Global assignments expanded further when he worked at the 2023 Global T20 Canada, making history as the first Bangladeshi umpire to officiate in a foreign T20 franchise league. He also served as a match official for both the men's and women's tournaments at the 2022 Asian Games, which included standing in the final matches of both tournaments.
