Murray Welsh Brown spent two decades officiating at the highest levels of the domestic game in South Africa. Born in Grahamstown in 1966, he built a reputation for consistency and reliability that saw him become a fixture on the field for twenty years.
As a member of the Cricket South Africa umpire panel for first-class matches, Brown oversaw a significant volume of domestic play. He was a familiar presence during the Sunfoil Series, where he managed the pressures of the long-form game with a steady hand.
Between 2002 and 2022, Brown stood in 154 first-class matches. His career concluded following his death on 8 February 2024 at the age of 57.
