Subroto Das built a solid career in Indian domestic cricket long before transition into administrative roles. He represented Bihar in the Ranji Trophy for over a decade, appearing in 46 first-class matches between the 1972/73 and 1985/86 seasons. As a right-handed batter, he became a reliable fixture in the middle order and occasionally took on the responsibility of wicket-keeping for his team. His longevity in the domestic circuit made him a well-known figure in the regional game during the seventies and eighties.
His batting statistics reflect a player capable of anchoring an innings. Over his career, he scored 1,885 runs at an average of 27.31. Das reached the century mark four times and added six half-centuries to his tally. His highest individual score was 151, a knock that showcased his ability to play long innings against quality bowling attacks. While he was primarily a batter, he also recorded 15 catches in the field and even tried his hand at bowling, delivering 30 balls in first-class cricket without taking a wicket.
After his playing days ended, Das remained involved in the sport through cricket administration and selection. In 2020, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association appointed him as the head of the women's selection sub-committee. This role allowed him to use his extensive experience from his 14 seasons with Bihar to help identify and develop talent within the state's women's cricket programs.
