Adelaide Oval

Adelaide Oval has hosted cricket matches since 1892, following its opening in 1872. The site holds a capacity of 53,500 people. It has served as a consistent venue for Australian cricket for over 150 years. The ground remains a primary location for domestic and international fixtures, maintaining a long relationship with the sport that spans generations of players and different formats of the game.

The ground functions as the home base for Australia, the Southern Redbacks, and the Adelaide Strikers. These teams use the facility throughout the year for various competitions. Professional cricket at this site includes the Sheffield Shield and the Big Bash League. Historically, it has also hosted the Benson and Hedges World Series, the VB Series, the Commonwealth Bank Series, and the Men's T20 World Cup.

Test cricket began here in December 1884 with a match between Australia and England. This format continued until the most recent men's Test, which occurred between December 17 and December 21, 2025, also involving Australia and England. The women's game has a substantial presence as well, with the first women's Test taking place in January 1949 between Australia and England.

Limited-overs cricket occupies a significant portion of the schedule. The first men's ODI was held in December 1975, pitting Australia against the West Indies. In the shorter format, the first men's T20I took place in January 2011 between Australia and England. The ground continues to host these matches frequently, with the last men's ODI occurring in November 2024 and the last men's T20I in February 2024.

In 2026, the Adelaide Strikers secured an 8-wicket win against the Melbourne Renegades, while also claiming a 6-run victory over the Sydney Thunder. However, the Perth Scorchers defeated the Adelaide Strikers by 32 runs in the same year. These games demonstrate the competitive nature of the matches played regularly in the Big Bash League.

International results also highlight the standard of play. In December 2025, Australia defeated England by 82 runs in a men's Test match. Women's international cricket also maintains a presence, with the last women's T20I contested here in January 2025 between Australia and England. The women's ODI history at the ground dates back to 1996, with the most recent match played in February 2024 against South Africa.
