Brabourne Stadium

Brabourne Stadium is a permanent fixture in Mumbai cricket. It serves as a home ground for the Mumbai men's and women's teams, alongside the Rajasthan Royals. Established in 1937, the stadium holds 50,000 spectators. The site remains deeply connected to the Cricket Club of India, which operates the facility for major domestic and international cricket fixtures throughout the calendar year.

The stadium hosted its first men's Test match in December 1948 between India and the West Indies. This encounter began a long period of international competition that saw teams like Australia, England, and Sri Lanka visit the city. The final men's Test match at the ground occurred in December 2009 against Sri Lanka, marking the end of a specific chapter for international red-ball cricket here.

Limited overs cricket has occupied much of the schedule in recent decades. The first men's ODI took place in October 1989 between Pakistan and Australia, while the final men's ODI arrived in October 2018 against the West Indies. The ground also held its only men's T20I in October 2007, which featured India playing against Australia during a period of rapid growth for the shorter format.

Women's international cricket has found a consistent space at the venue. The first women's ODI was played here in December 2003 between India and New Zealand, with the final one occurring in February 2013 during the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup. More recently, the stadium hosted the first women's T20I in March 2018 and the final one in December 2022, both involving India and Australia.

Modern domestic leagues frequently utilize the pitch for high-stakes matches. During the 2022 Indian Premier League season, the ground saw a series of competitive fixtures. Rajasthan Royals defeated the Chennai Super Kings by five wickets and secured a 24-run win over the Lucknow Super Giants. Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians also claimed victories on this turf against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans respectively.

The Ranji Trophy continues to bring domestic teams to the center of Mumbai cricket. In a 2023 match between Maharashtra and Mumbai, the contest ended in a draw. This result highlighted the ongoing utility of the pitch for traditional formats even as the stadium balances a busy schedule of T20 tournaments and various international events. Cricket remains active here, spanning from 1938 until the current day.
