Providence Stadium

Providence Stadium holds twenty thousand spectators and was established in two thousand and six to replace Bourda as the national stadium of Guyana. The ground was built specifically to host matches for the two thousand and seven Cricket World Cup, including games in the Super Eight stage of the tournament.

International cricket arrived quickly after the venue opened. South Africa and Sri Lanka played the first men's one day international here in March two thousand and seven, just before the World Cup matches began. West Indies and Sri Lanka contested the first men's test match at the venue in March two thousand and eight.

Shorter formats followed through the subsequent years. New Zealand and Sri Lanka played the first men's twenty twenty international in April two thousand and ten, while West Indies and Pakistan met in the first women's twenty twenty international in September two thousand and eleven.

Domestic and regional fixtures anchor the schedule in the modern era. The Guyana cricket team has played here since two thousand and seven, and the Guyana Amazon Warriors joined them as tenants starting in two thousand and thirteen.

Franchise cricket fills the calendar regularly. Teams like the Trinbago Knight Riders, Jamaica Tallawahs, Saint Lucia Kings, and Barbados Royals visit frequently for Caribbean Premier League fixtures alongside other regional and international tournaments.

Recent competition action includes matches from two thousand and twenty five. Trinbago Knight Riders defeated Saint Lucia Kings by fifty six runs, and the Guyana Amazon Warriors recorded a sixty four run victory over the Barbados Royals.

Test cricket history at the ground spans from two thousand and eight through two thousand and twenty four. West Indies hosted South Africa for a men's test match in August two thousand and twenty four in the most recent red ball fixture played here.
