After Mushfiqur Rahim, now Marshall Ayub!Marshal has been the 2nd Bangladeshi batsmen who have obstructed the field in first-class cricket.

Last December against New Zealand, Mushfiqur was obstructing the field while moving the ball with unnecessary hands. After English legend Len Hutton, Mushfiq became the second batsman in Test history to obstruct the field out.

But Mushfiq would have handled the ball out if MCC did not change the law. In 2017, the MCC added Handled the Ball Out to Obstructing the Field Out.

It was the only instance of a Bangladeshi batsman obstructing the field out in first-class cricket. After 10 and a half months, the number became 2 today. Marshall Ayub met with such misfortune in the National Cricket League. Marshall was obstructing the field in the first innings of Dhaka Metropolis against Barisal at the Sylhet Academy Ground. This batsman has become an experienced batsman not by handling the ball like Mushfiq but by obstructing the field out.

Incident of the 116th over of Mahanagar’s innings. Marshall, who scored his 25th century in first-class cricket, was on his way to greater things. Marshall ran to take 1 run after pushing the second ball of the over by pacer Kamrul Islam towards cover. The fielder catches the ball and throws it to the non-striking edge. It goes and falls on Dhabman Marshall. Both the bowler Kamrul and the fielder appealed to the umpire for obstructing the field. Marshall deliberately did this to avoid being run out – thinking that the umpire accepted the demand and gave him out. When Marshall returned to the ‘history average’, his score was 127.
