Bangladesh’s former national team captain and the country’s top all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, has had his bank accounts frozen by the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU). This was confirmed on Wednesday (November 6) by an anonymous official from the BFIU to a private news channel.

Earlier, on October 2, the BFIU had requested all banking information related to Shakib, his wife Umme Ahmed Shishir, and their business due to concerns about potential stock market manipulation and financial irregularities. Following an investigation, the BFIU made this decision under government orders.

This development further reduces the likelihood of the world-class all-rounder’s return to Bangladesh anytime soon. Currently, Shakib is with his family in the United States. Though he was initially set to skip the West Indies series, his future on the field now appears uncertain. Shakib has already retired from Test and T20 cricket.

In 2024, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Magura-1 constituency, securing a nomination from the ruling Awami League government. However, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s administration on August 5, Shakib was named as a suspect in a murder case filed at Adabar police station.
