Pakistan cricket’s drama seems never-ending—this phrase itself is becoming overused! Yet, the saga continues without pause. Yesterday, reports emerged that Jason Gillespie, Pakistan’s Test team coach, would be replaced by Aaqib Javed, who was set to become the coach for all three formats. After Gary Kirsten’s sudden resignation, Gillespie had been appointed interim coach for the white-ball series during the Australia tour. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) later clarified that Gillespie would remain the Test team coach until the South Africa series.

Today, PCB issued yet another statement, confirming Aaqib Javed as the interim coach for white-ball cricket. His contract extends until the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Currently serving as a member of the selection committee, Aaqib will retain this role alongside his coaching responsibilities.

The PCB also mentioned that a permanent coach for white-ball cricket will be appointed soon, likely after the Champions Trophy. Scheduled to take place in Pakistan, the Champions Trophy is set for February 19 to March 9 next year.

Before that, Pakistan’s upcoming series includes a tour of Zimbabwe. From November 24 to December 5, they are set to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Zimbabwe.
