West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph has been penalized for using inappropriate language with the fourth umpire before the start of a match.

Ahead of the second ODI against Bangladesh, Joseph received some bad news—he was fined for misconduct during the first match.

The ICC, cricket’s governing body, announced the penalty in a press release about 90 minutes before the second match in St. Kitts.

Joseph was fined 25% of his match fee for breaching Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Additionally, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.

The incident occurred when Joseph, wearing boots, was walking on the pitch before Sunday’s match. Fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite tried to stop him, but Joseph responded with inappropriate language.

Match referees Jeff Crowe handed the punishment based on reports from on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Leslie Reifer, along with their colleagues Asif Yaqoob and Brathwaite.

Since Joseph admitted to the offense, no formal hearing was required.
