Jasprit Bumrah aimed for a yorker but ended up delivering a low full toss. That’s the kind of ball no batter misses, especially not Travis Head. The ball raced toward the mid-wicket boundary, and Head ran two to bring up his century. Yet another ton—his second in consecutive matches.

At the Gabba in Brisbane, Head’s century against India completely tilted the second session of Day 2 in Australia’s favor. The hosts piled up 130 runs in 27 overs without losing a wicket during the session. Head was unbeaten with a century, while Steven Smith reached tea on 65 not out.

Having scored 140 in the Adelaide Test, Head reached his ninth Test century today in just 115 balls, including 13 boundaries. Though he scored a hundred in the previous match, this century at Brisbane came after a streak of three consecutive ducks. Remarkably, in his last three Test innings at this venue, Head had been dismissed for 0—all first-ball dismissals.

Back in January this year, Head was out for a king pair (first-ball ducks in both innings) against the West Indies. Before that, in December 2022, he was dismissed for 0 in the second innings against South Africa.

With today’s knock, Head became the first batter in history to record both a king pair and a century at the same venue in the same calendar year.
