Jasprit Bumrah’s team crumbled to just 185 runs in the first innings of the Sydney Test.

The pitch offered a hint of green grass, swing, movement, and unpredictable bounce—conditions that Australian pacers exploited to perfection. Scott Boland delivered an outstanding spell with pinpoint accuracy, supported by Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, as India failed to reach even 200 runs.

On Friday, during the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India’s first innings ended in 72.2 overs for 185 runs. This marks the seventh time in their last eight Tests that India’s first innings concluded before 80 overs.

At the Sydney Cricket Ground, this was only the fourth time in the past 30 years that a team’s first innings ended under 200 runs. Coincidentally, the last time this happened was also India’s first innings in 2012 when they managed just 191 runs.

By the end of Day 1, Australia had scored 9 runs for the loss of Usman Khawaja, trailing by 176 runs.

Boland spearheaded the bowling attack, taking 4 wickets for 31 runs. Starc chipped in with 3, while Cummins picked up 2. Veteran spinner Nathan Lyon added another to the tally.

India’s batting lacked any standout performances, with Rishabh Pant contributing the highest score of 40. No other batter managed to reach 30.

Brief Scores:
India 1st Innings: 185 all out in 72.2 overs (Jaiswal 10, Rahul 4, Gill 20, Kohli 17, Pant 40, Jadeja 26, Nitish 0, Washington 14, Prasidh 3, Bumrah 22, Siraj 3*; Starc 3/49, Cummins 2/37, Boland 4/31, Lyon 1/19).

Australia 1st Innings: 9/1 in 3 overs (Constas 7*, Khawaja 2; Bumrah 1/7).
