On December 18, a summons was issued against him.

In a case involving the dishonor of a cheque worth Tk 4.14 crore from IFIC Bank, a court has issued an arrest warrant against cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and another individual.

The order was given on Sunday by Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Ziadur Rahman.

Apart from Shakib, the warrant has also been issued against Gazi Shahagir Hossain, the managing director of Shakib’s Agro Farm.

The court’s bench assistant, Atikur Rahman, stated, *“Today, one of the accused, Imdadul Haque, appeared before the court and applied for bail. Following the hearing, the court granted his bail.

“Another accused, Malaika Begum, has passed away, and the court has sought her death certificate. Since Shakib Al Hasan and Gazi Shahagir Hossain did not appear in court, an arrest warrant has been issued against them.”*

The court has set March 24 as the deadline for the submission of reports related to the arrests, Atikur added.

The case was filed by IFIC Bank’s relationship officer, Sahibur Rahman, on December 15. Alongside Shakib Al Hasan, the defendants include Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm, its managing director Gazi Shahagir Hossain, and directors Imdadul Haque and Malaika Begum. On December 18, after a hearing, the court had issued a summons against all four individuals.

According to the plaintiff, Sahibur Rahman, *“Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm had issued two cheques to repay their loan. When we attempted to cash the cheques, we found insufficient funds in the account.

“We sent a notice, but they did not respond, prompting us to file a dishonored cheque case in court.”*

Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm Limited primarily operates in Satkhira, with Shakib serving as its chairman.

The case details state that in 2017, Shakib’s Agro Farm borrowed Tk 1 crore as working capital and Tk 1.5 crore as a term loan from the Banani branch of IFIC Bank. When the working capital loan was not repaid on time, the bank converted it into a term loan.

After repeated notices to recover the amount, Shakib’s company issued two cheques worth Tk 4.14 crore to the bank on September 4 of this year. However, due to insufficient funds in the account, the cheques bounced.

Following this, the Banani branch of IFIC Bank issued a legal notice under the Negotiable Instruments Act through a daily newspaper, demanding repayment. When no response was received within 30 days, the case was filed in court.
